Divine Light Saturday, June 16
Best-selling author Daniel Pinchbeck (2012: The Return of Quetzalcoatl and Breaking Open the Head: A Psychedelic Journey into the Heart of Contemporary Shamanism) will be in Toronto to discuss art, psychedelics, and the end of time. He will join film-maker Alice Klein and artists Scott Peterson and Morgan Maher at the DeLeon White Gallery for an event that marks the opening of Divine Light, a 15-day sound-installation conceived and directed by Scott Peterson.
Divine Light is a sound-sculpture celebrating illumination and the human spirit. It offers an abstract reference to the music of the spheres as nine pairs of speakers play compositions corresponding in ratio to the rotations of the planets in our solar system. “It gathers together visions and visionaries, sound and music, environments and ecologies, shedding light on our relationships with the celestial, while referencing the immediate challenges of life within Earth and the life of the Earth.” Ayahuasca-inspired images by Morgan Maher, in which shifting trajectories and emerging, camouflaged wildlife appear and mirage, offer visual counterpoints to the sonic-landscape.
A screening of Call of the Hummingbird will open the evening (6:00 pm), followed by a panel discussion with Daniel Pinchbeck, Alice Klein, Scott Peterson and Morgan Maher.
At the DeLeon White Gallery, 1139 College Street (West of Dufferin). Doors open at 5:00 pm.

Beats, Breaks and Culture – Saturday, July 7
Back for its 4th year, Beats, Breaks and Culture (B.B.C.) takes place at Harbourfront from July 6-8 and is a celebration of electronic music and culture in all of its facets from house, hip hop, electronic and beyond. This year, B.B.C. explores the theme of nature and technology as it intersects and conflicts with our vision of a sustainable future. Tour the history of electronic music, starting with its roots in soul, funk and jazz; listen in on the present, then continue to the future, where electronic music intermingles and meshes with contemporary global sounds. B.B.C. focuses on Canada’s leading electronic artists and international electronic artists from live bands, producers and DJs. It will also be exploring the links between all electronic music and technology through film, video and workshops.
